The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India has strongly rejected allegations made by US President Donald Trump regarding an Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Calling the claim 'baseless,' the Iranian side accused Washington of deliberately distorting facts amid rising maritime tensions in the region.
In a post shared on X, the embassy said the accusation was an attempt to divert attention from what it described as “brutal facts” on the ground. It further alleged that the United States had attacked multiple Indian vessels in a short span, leading to the deaths of Indian sailors.
“The U.S. president's accusation against Iran regarding an Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz is simply baseless,” the embassy said, adding that Washington was trying to shift focus from “attacking 3 Indian vessels and killing innocent Indian sailors.”
The Iranian Embassy also escalated its counter-allegations, claiming that US actions had resulted in the deaths of Indian seafarers. It described the incidents as “brutal” and “pathetic,” asserting that three Indian sailors had been killed in recent strikes.
The statement on X directly accused Washington of engaging in actions that endangered civilian maritime movement and violated international norms, intensifying the diplomatic exchange over the incidents in the Gulf region.
The embassy insisted that the narrative being pushed by the US was aimed at obscuring responsibility for the attacks on commercial shipping routes carrying Indian crew members.
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei issued a statement expressing condolences over the deaths of Indian nationals. He termed the incidents evidence of what he called “state piracy” and urged international intervention.
“The brutal U.S. attacks on Indian commercial vessels, which have killed at least three Indian nationals, stand as clear evidence of America's ongoing policy of armed robbery and State piracy,” the statement said.
Baqaei further called on the global community to act against what Iran described as repeated violations of international maritime norms. “The international community must hold the United States accountable for its lawless conduct,” he added, warning that such actions threaten global peace and freedom of navigation.
