Kamalbari-Neamatighat Ferry Service in Majuli Resumes After 3 Months

PratidinTime 1 month ago

Ferry services between Kamalabari and Neamatighat in Assam's Majuli resumed on Saturday after a three-month suspension, bringing relief to daily commuters and traders.

The services had been disrupted due to a significant drop in water levels of the Brahmaputra River, which forced operations to shift away from the original ghat.

With the restoration of the ferry route, normal connectivity between Majuli and the mainland has been re-established.

Over the past three months, declining water levels in the Brahmaputra have rendered the traditional Kamalabari ghat non-operational. Ferry services were temporarily shifted near Aphalamukh ghat, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Commuters faced difficulties due to longer travel times and logistical challenges, while the closure of the historic ferry point disrupted routine connectivity.

The suspension of services affected a large number of passengers travelling to the South Bank. The disruption also impacted local trade and commercial activities that depend heavily on the ferry route.

The absence of regular services added to the hardship of residents relying on daily river crossings.

With water levels stabilising, ferry operations have now returned to the Kamalabari ghat. Services will run at an interval of one hour, ensuring smoother movement for passengers and goods.
