The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have done it again. Bringing to a close a gruelling Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 edition, RCB chased down a low target of 156, led by Virat Kohli. With successive wins, they have now gone from their first title in 18 years to two in two.
Leading RCB, Rajat Patidar won the toss and put the Gujarat Titans to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the RCB bowlers were on top of the GT attack, not allowing the feared GT openers to settle. Despite what looked like a good start, the team from Gujarat lost captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who have been brilliant throughout the tournament, providing solid starts, with just 26 runs on the board.
Despite having more firepower in their lineup, GT could not manage to kick on their innings following the early setback and kept losing wickets frequently as the RCB bowling attack had them in its vice grip. Washington Sundar stood out with a battling 50 off 37 balls.
After a morale-boosting win chase to beat the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second qualifier to make their way into the final in style, they could only manage to put together 155, losing eight wickets.
Rasikh Salam stood out with three wickets, while Bhuneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood got two wickets each.
Coming in for the chase, the RCB got off to an explosive start with Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli putting up 62 in just four overs before Mohammed Siraj broke the partnership, taking the wicket of Iyer. However, Kohli continued to weave partnerships and stayed till the end and ensured the win.
GT momentarily looked to be back in the contest after two quick wickets left RCB on 91 for the loss of four, but not having a big total to defend came back to haunt them. In the end, Kohli smashed a maximum to finish off the game, ending on 75 off 42.
Rashid Khan picked up two wickets, but could not spark a comeback, while Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Arshad Khan ended with a wicket apiece.
