Kokrajhar District Imposes Dry Days Ahead of Assembly Elections

The District Magistrate of Kokrajhar, P. Uday Praveen, has announced 'Dry Days' in the district to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election process.

The prohibition on the sale and consumption of alcohol will be in effect from 5:00 PM on April 7, 2026, to 5:00 PM on April 9, 2026, covering the 48-hour period leading up to the conclusion of polling.

In addition, May 4, 2026, the day of vote counting, has also been declared a Dry Day, which will remain in force until the completion of counting, including any re-poll if required.

During the Dry Days, all liquor-related establishments, including wholesale warehouses, IMFL retail outlets, bars, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and country spirit shops, will remain closed. Authorities will also enforce strict rules on the storage and possession of liquor, especially in unlicensed premises.

The district administration has warned that any violation of the order will attract legal action under the Assam Excise Act and election laws.
