Security forces in Manipur have arrested multiple active militants linked to banned insurgent groups and recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives during coordinated operations on March 26-27.
A major seizure was made on March 27 in the Moidangpok Khunou area under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. Authorities recovered three locally made bolt-action single-barrel guns, two pistols with magazines, a 2-inch mortar, four anti-riot 38mm cartridges, five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and other gear. Officials said the recovery could have helped avert potential attacks in the sensitive region.
On March 26, security forces arrested Chongtham Nanao Singh, alias Khunou (29), a member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), near Border Pillars 78–79 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.
The crackdown continued on March 27 with the arrest of two more insurgents, Angom Lemba Meitei (26), linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and Yumnam Boni Meitei (42), associated with Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Both were apprehended between Border Pillars 73–74 in Moreh and hail from Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
In another operation, Chingakham Nongpoknganba Meitei (21), linked to the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/PLA, was arrested in Imphal East district, with a mobile phone seized.
Security forces also apprehended Thongam Premjit Singh (49) of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) from Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai under Imphal Police Station. Premjit is connected to a 2022 bomb explosion case in Sagolband Takhellambam Leikai. Officials recovered his mobile phone and Aadhaar card during the arrest.
