Myanmar President Set for Four-Day India Visit From May 30

Myanmar President Set for Four-Day India Visit From May 30

PratidinTime 1 week ago

Myanmar's newly elected President U Min Aung Hlaing will pay an official four-day visit to India from May 30 to June 3, 2026, during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visit key locations, including Bodh Gaya in Bihar, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

The MEA said the visit has been made at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and will be the first official visit of U Min Aung Hlaing to India in his current role as President. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

As part of his itinerary, the Myanmar President was earlier expected to attend the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit on June 1. However, the event was postponed following changes in the schedule linked to the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit due to an Ebola outbreak in some African countries.

According to the MEA statement, President U Min Aung Hlaing will now arrive in India for his official visit from May 30 to June 3. During his stay in New Delhi, he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1, where both leaders are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen historical and cultural ties between the two countries. He will also take part in a business forum during the visit.

The Myanmar President will begin his India tour with a visit to Bodh Gaya on May 30, followed by engagements in Mumbai on June 2, where he will interact with business and industry leaders and also visit important sites.

The MEA said Myanmar holds an important place in India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR policies, and this visit is expected to further deepen bilateral relations in multiple sectors.

The visit comes after Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh travelled to Myanmar in April to attend the presidential inauguration of U Min Aung Hlaing. During that visit, he also conveyed Prime Minister Modi’s letter of congratulations to the Myanmar leader and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
