Starting with a three-day visit to Uttarakhand on Thursday, BJP president Nitin Nabin has hit the ground running to tone up the party's preparations for the assembly polls to be held in seven states next year.

The BJP has begun an aggressive early outreach campaign across states heading for assembly elections in 2027, with party national president Nitin Nabin launching a series of organisational visits beginning from Uttarakhand.

During his three-day stay in the hill state, Nabin is holding a string of meetings with senior BJP leaders, ministers, MLAs and grassroots workers. The focus of these interactions is to assess the party's readiness, understand local issues, and take direct feedback from the ground level.

He is also scheduled to meet Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and hold discussions with state ministers on election-related planning and organisational strengthening. According to party sources, these meetings are aimed at fine-tuning the BJP's poll strategy well in advance.

A senior party source said the national president's visit to Uttarakhand marks only the beginning of a larger nationwide tour. Nabin is expected to travel to all states where elections are due next year, spending around three days in each state to review preparations and interact with party functionaries at every level.

The source added that in states where the BJP is in power, Nabin will also meet ministers and senior leaders apart from party office-bearers to take stock of governance feedback along with electoral planning. The objective, according to party insiders, is to ensure that the organisation remains fully prepared long before the election schedule is announced.

Assembly elections are due in 2027 in seven states: Goa, Gujarat, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Except for Punjab, the BJP is currently in power in all the remaining states.

Meanwhile, in a parallel organisational development, the BJP on Thursday appointed Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon as the president of its Punjab unit. The decision is being seen as part of the party's strategy to strengthen its position in the politically crucial state ahead of the elections.

Dhillon, a former Congress MLA from Barnala, joined the BJP in 2022 after quitting the Congress. He was later made vice president of the state unit and is considered close to former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who also joined the BJP after leaving the Congress.

Party leaders said there had been internal demand for a Sikh face to lead the Punjab unit, and Dhillon's appointment reflects the party's attempt to expand its appeal and strengthen its organisational base in the state, where it is looking to challenge the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
