Pawan Khera "Ran Away" to Hyderabad, Assam CM Alleges Amid Passport Controversy

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday alleged that Congress leader Pawan Khera 'ran away' to Hyderabad from New Delhi after Assam Police visited his residence in the national capital.

The move comes amid the ongoing passport row involving Sarma’s family.

Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said he learned about Khera’s departure through media reports. “He ran away from Guwahati yesterday. I have come to know through the media that the police have gone to his residence in Delhi, but he has run away to Hyderabad. The law will take its own course,” Sarma added.

The controversy erupted after Congress leaders alleged that CM Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, holds three passports. Following these claims, Assam Police conducted searches at Pawan Khera’s Delhi residence based on an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma on Monday.

Earlier, CM Sarma had vowed strict action against Khera. “I will take stringent action against Congress leader Pawan Khera. Just wait for a few days. We will win at least 100 seats in the elections,” he said at a press conference in Guwahati.

Sarma also countered Congress's allegations linking his family to properties in Dubai, claiming the documents used were stolen from a document-sharing platform. He further raised questions about the alleged foreign links of Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera, accusing them of getting help from Pakistani social media groups.

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma stated that she filed the FIR to ensure justice prevails and accused the Congress of acting out of frustration. “Allegations cannot be taken in a lenient manner. Let justice prevail,” she said.
