'PM Visit Cancellation Not Linked to Zubeen Garg Protest': Lurinjyoti Gogoi

PratidinTime 1 month ago

At a meeting held in Nalbari, Assam, Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) made several remarks on political and public issues, including the reported cancellation of the Japanese Prime Minister's proposed visit to Assam, healthcare services in the state, and recent party developments.

Speaking on the issue related to the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit, Gogoi said that the cancellation was not due to any protest involving the image of Zubeen Garg. He stated that if such reasons were true, then even the Prime Minister’s visit to Delhi would have been affected, referring to ongoing protests there.

He added that the visit to Assam was never officially confirmed and said that unnecessary confusion was created before any final announcement was made.

On the issue of healthcare, Gogoi expressed concern that despite the presence of medical colleges in several districts, patients continue to travel to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital due to a lack of proper treatment facilities in district medical colleges. He said that improving healthcare services in district institutions is necessary to reduce pressure on major hospitals.

Regarding political changes within the Assam Jatiya Parishad, he said that media coverage is often selective when leaders from other parties resign. He added that individuals joining politics only for power or financial reasons may come and go, but leaders with a commitment to public issues will continue their work.

Gogoi made these remarks during a review meeting in Nalbari involving party workers from Nalbari, Baksa, Bajali, Barpeta, and Tamulpur districts. The meeting focused on strengthening organisational activities and future planning for the party.
