Punjab Kings (PBKS) recorded a thrilling five-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on Friday, chasing down a target of 210 runs.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s 50 off 29 balls, along with explosive contributions from Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, propelled the team to their second consecutive win of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings, batting first, posted 209/5 with Ayush Mhatre top-scoring at 73 off 43 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Shivam Dube (45* off 28) and Sarfaraz Khan (32 off 12) provided vital late-order support. CSK started strongly, but the innings lost momentum as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mhatre’s partnership ended at 110, leaving CSK to rely on late fireworks to reach a formidable total.
Punjab Kings began their chase aggressively. Priyansh Arya smashed 39 off 11 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh contributed 43 in 34 balls, putting on a 61-run opening stand. Cooper Connolly added 36 off 22 balls, maintaining the required momentum. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, PBKS maintained the run rate, with Iyer delivering a match-defining 50, including four boundaries and three sixes.
Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy and timely boundaries allowed PBKS to reach 201/5 in 18.4 overs. Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, and Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten to close out the match. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed, Matt Henry, Anshul Kamboj, and Rahul Chahar picked up wickets, with Kamboj claiming two crucial scalps. PBKS’s win underlined their consistent chasing ability and bolstered their position in IPL 2026.
