In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Silchar Police in Assam on Friday conducted raids at two separate locations in the city and seized a large quantity of narcotics, including 8,000 Yaba tablets and more than 748 grams of heroin.
Two women were arrested in connection with the seizures.
The first operation was carried out on the Rongpur Road stretch in Silchar, where police raided the residence of a woman identified as Hamida Begum Laskar. During the search, police recovered 8,000 Yaba tablets from the premises.
In addition to the tablets, the police also seized 14 soap cases containing suspected heroin. The recovered heroin weighed approximately 739 grams, making it a significant seizure in the district's ongoing campaign against narcotics.
Acting on further inputs, Silchar Police launched a second operation at Water Works Road. During this raid, police searched the residence of another woman, identified as Seema Begum Laskar.
The search led to the recovery of 88 packets and plastic containers containing suspected heroin. According to police, the total quantity of heroin seized during the second operation weighed 9.67 grams.
The two separate operations resulted in the recovery of 8,000 Yaba tablets, 14 soap cases containing 739 grams of heroin, and 88 additional packets and containers holding 9.67 grams of heroin.
Police arrested both Hamida Begum Laskar and Seema Begum Laskar in connection with the drug seizures. They are expected to face further legal proceedings as investigators examine the alleged source and supply network behind the narcotics.
