A case of student death has been reported from Bamunbari Garpathar in Assam's Tingkhong area, which falls under Dibrugarh district, where a Class 9 student of Bamunbari High School died by suicide at her home.
The student, identified as Aine Sonowal, reportedly took the extreme step on June 16 when she was alone at home.
According to reports, the incident is linked to a dispute between the student and one of her classmates. The family alleged that after the dispute, the girl created a fake Instagram account in the name of her classmate and posted objectionable comments using a photo of a female teacher.
Following this, the teacher reportedly called the student to school. The family has alleged that the girl was mentally harassed by the teacher and a, classmate during her visit to the school.
Before the incident, she posted an apology note on Instagram, stating that “I am Aine Sonowal, a Class 9 A student. I am sorry, Chandrani ma’am. I made a big mistake, and from now time I will not make this type of mistake. I used your photo in an Instagram story. From next time I will not repeat this mistake. I did this because I had a fight with my classmates, and that is why I misused your photo.”
They further claimed that as a form of punishment, the teacher forced her to post a message from her father’s WhatsApp account, which later led to humiliation in the community when people started questioning him after seeing the post.
The student’s mother said the incident deeply affected her daughter and urged authorities to ensure justice.
The father of the deceased has already filed a complaint at the Bamunbari police outpost, naming both the teacher and the classmate. The brother of the student has also demanded strict action and justice for the family.
Police investigation is underway.
