The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday carried out a raid at a residence near BG Road in Assam's Sivasagar district in connection with an alleged cyber fraud case involving the hacking of the Supreme Court's website and the diversion of a large amount of money.
A three-member CBI team conducted the operation at the residence of Taikum Gogoi, also known as Ripu Gogoi, who is suspected to be one of the key figures in the case.
According to sources, the investigation is linked to allegations that cybercriminals hacked the Supreme Court's website and siphoned off a substantial amount of money through fraudulent transactions. Investigators are probing claims that the funds were routed through the bank account of a firm based in Charaideo district.
A day earlier, the CBI had conducted operations in Charaideo district, during which four individuals, identified as Amar Jeevan Gayan, Jugantar Deep Gogoi, Pranjal Pratim Dutta and Manoj Agarwal, were detained and questioned in connection with the case.
During the latest raid in Sivasagar, CBI reportedly seized several documents and other materials believed to be relevant to the probe. However, officials refrained from making any public comments regarding the ongoing investigation.
Sources further alleged that Taikum alias Ripu Gogoi played a leading role in the cybercrime operation.
Notably, Gogoi has previously been accused in cases related to drug trafficking. He had also reportedly been arrested earlier by Assam Police in connection with narcotics-related offences.
The investigation remains underway.
