Adobe Illustrator Turntable is reshaping how artists handle 2D vector artwork.
Adobe has released the Turntable feature in Illustrator, allowing users to rotate flat vector illustrations as if they were 3D objects, without redrawing each angle.
First previewed as a "sneak" at Adobe MAX in October 2024, the tool has now moved out of beta and into the main app for everyday use.
Turntable uses AI to automatically generate up to 74 editable views from a single 2D design, covering full 360-degree rotation and vertical tilt while preserving the original style. Designers, animators and game artists can quickly create character turnarounds, product spins or concept art sheets that previously required hours of repetitive redraws.
Each generated angle remains fully editable, so creators can refine shapes, colours and details after the views are created. Adobe says feedback from beta testers, including animators using Turntable for pitch decks and game teams prototyping assets, helped shape the final tool.
Turntable lives alongside Illustrator's 3D and Materials and Transform controls: users select an object, open the relevant panel, enable Turntable and then adjust rotation or tilt via on-canvas widgets or sliders. Options such as placing all views on the canvas at once, or exporting frames as a GIF, make it easier to prepare production-ready sheets or quick motion previews.
For Illustrator's community, Turntable marks a notable shift towards AI-assisted workflows that aim to remove drudgery while keeping artists in control of the final image. If it works as promised at scale, the feature could become a routine part of character design, logo exploration and pre-production pipelines, rather than a niche experiment.
The real test will be how reliably Turntable handles complex, layered artwork in everyday studio projects, but for now many Illustrator users are likely to see it as a welcome, time-saving upgrade rather than a threat to their craft.
