Apple AI App Store is at the heart of Apple's next big artificial intelligence push, and it may arrive with iOS 27 later this year.
The company is testing a new Siri app with an "Extensions" feature that would let iPhone, iPad and Mac users plug in third-party AI chatbots directly into Siri, instead of relying on a single built-in assistant.
Under the plan, Siri Extensions would route users to a dedicated section of the App Store, effectively working as an Apple AI App Store for chatbot integrations. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says this "marketplace of sorts for third-party AI integrations" could support services such as Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude alongside Apple's own models. iOS 27 is expected to be unveiled at Apple's WWDC developer conference on 8 June, with a wider release likely in September.
Apple is also reshaping its underlying AI stack through a multi-year deal with Google. The next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini family and cloud technology, powering a more personalised Siri and future "Apple Intelligence" features. Apple has selected Google as its preferred partner after evaluating several options but continues to work on its own long-term models.
Despite leaning on Google's infrastructure, Apple insists its privacy stance will not change. Apple Intelligence and the revamped Siri are expected to run on-device where possible, or via Apple's Private Cloud Compute, with user data processed on Apple-controlled servers rather than stored on Google's systems. If Siri Extensions and the Apple AI App Store arrive as planned, Apple could open Siri to rival assistants while trying to keep its reputation for tight data protection intact.
