Pune Police have registered a case against a 23-year-old man for alleged of abetment to suicide following the death of a young woman in the Warje Malwadi area.
The case was filed after the victim's mother approached police alleging that her daughter had been under severe emotional distress due to issues in her relationship.
According to investigators, the deceased woman and the accused had been in a relationship for nearly two years. Police said the relationship had reportedly had become strained in recent months which led to frequent disagreements between the couple.
Family members have alleged that the woman was subjected to mental stress as a result of the ongoing disputes, which had affected her emotional day to day well-being.
The woman was found dead at her residence on 4th May. Initially, the incident was recorded as an accidental death as police mentioned.
However, during the subsequent inquiry, allegations of mental harassment had emerged which indicated the authorities to register an offence against the woman's boyfriend.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim's mother, Warje Malwadi Police have booked the accused under relevant provisions related to abetment of suicide.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace the accused and gather further evidence as part of the investigation.
