Central railways have reported a strong performance for the financial year 2025 and 26 with visible gains in passenger services, infrastructure development and revenue generation shared by officials during a media briefing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus.
The zone introduced 7 new trains including the Pune ajni vande Bharat express while expanding Suburban services and adding haults and station to improve the connectivity.
Passenger traffic reached around 1,643 million travels, reflecting steady growth. Passenger revenue increased by 6.8% to Rs 8,123 crore, while total revenue stood at Rs 16,911 crore.
Officials also mention that there is an improve in ticket checking drives which is generating over rupees 251 crore and arise in non fair revenue through innovative initiatives. During the year over 100 KM of new track were ordered a long side major projects like the Pune Miraj section speed upgrades allowed several trains to run at 130 kmph which helped in improving travel efficiency.
The technological upgrades also included expansion of the kavach safety system Digital services and renewable energy adoption.
Similarly the cargo loading services touched about 79.34 million tons with strong growth in commodities like iron ore, petroleum and food grains.
Looking forward the central railway plans 12 new projects planning 1480 kilometre along with preparations for large scale events like the Kumbh Mela 2027 happening in Nashik
