A 50-year-old software engineer from Balewadi has allegedly lost cryptocurrency worth Rs. 9,84,469 after cyber fraudsters attacked his crypto wallets and transferred funds without authorisation.
The complainant, who runs a software company at Crystal Empire, has lodged a complaint at Baner Police Station. The incident reportedly took place between 21st April and 7th May, 2026.
According to police, the complainant is involved in cryptocurrency trading through an online platform. He maintained multiple crypto wallets across different companies.
On 7th May, while checking his wallets as usual, he noticed that the balance had reduced. Suspecting suspicious activity, he contacted a known crypto expert to trace where his USDT had been transferred.
The inquiry revealed that the funds had been moved to different wallets, including Binance Hot Wallet 6, KuCoin Hot Wallet 2 and RedotPay Hot Wallet.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that the cyber attack may have originated from Romania. Police said the accused allegedly used the complainant's blockchain addresses and private keys to access the wallets.
A total of 10,363 USDT, valued at Rs. 9,84,469, was transferred from the eight wallets without the complainant's permission.
Baner police have registered the complaint and begun technical investigation into the unauthorised transfers.
Officials are examining the transaction trail, wallet addresses and possible foreign links involved in the cyber attack.
