Pune: A parking dispute at the Gokhale Institute turned violent on Sunday afternoon after a former police officer allegedly assaulted a security guard on duty, in an incident that was caught on CCTV cameras installed near the institute's entrance.
The man identified as Bhanu Pratap Barge, a former police officer, had arrived at the institute when the guard on duty told him that the parking area was already full. What followed, according to accounts of the incident, was a heated exchange of words between the two that quickly escalated, with Barge allegedly striking the guard.
Officials at the Gokhale Institute have also stayed silent on the matter so far, with no statement or clarification issued by the administration regarding what transpired on its premises.
With the incident continuing to circulate online and public scrutiny mounting, attention now turns to whether the police will take up the matter and how the institute plans to respond to an episode that unfolded right at its gates.
