Instagram comment editing is finally here for users who have long wished they could fix a typo without deleting an entire reply.
Instagram has rolled out a new comment editing feature that gives users a 15-minute window to change what they have written after posting.
The Meta-owned platform says the update is designed to reduce the need to delete and retype comments just to correct small mistakes or clarify a point. During that 15-minute period, users can make unlimited edits, with adjusted comments clearly marked as "Edited" to signal that changes were made.
To use Instagram comment editing, people tap on their own comment, choose the Edit option, adjust the text and then confirm the change. The feature currently applies only to text and is available in the Instagram apps on iOS and Android, not on the web version. Meta has introduced similar time-limited editing controls for messages in recent years, and is now extending that approach to public conversations below posts and in Stories.
The 15-minute limit on Instagram comment editing is meant to offer flexibility without letting old conversations be quietly rewritten hours later. Edited comments do not display a public edit history, though the label indicating they have been modified is intended to preserve a basic level of transparency. Meta is positioning the change as a small but meaningful quality-of-life improvement for a platform where a single typo or autocorrect slip can easily be seen by millions.
In practice, Instagram comment editing brings the app closer to rivals that already allow limited post- or comment-editing, while still keeping tight control over how much content can be altered after the fact. For everyday users and creators alike, it turns an old frustration into a quick fix: notice an error, tap edit, make the change and move on, as long as it is done within those 15 minutes.
