Kaattaan OTT release date has finally been locked in, and fans of Vijay Sethupathi now know when they can stream his latest rural action drama from home.
Kaattaan, also promoted as Muthu Alias Kaattaan, will premiere on JioHotstar on 27 March 2026, as part of the platform's new Tamil content slate. The series will stream exclusively on JioHotstar, and viewers will need an active subscription to watch it. New episodes are expected to drop as a single season, with industry reports suggesting around 10 episodes of 30-40 minutes each.
Set in a remote village, Kaattaan follows Muthu, a man spoken of as a legend by some, a monster by others and almost a miracle by those who depend on him. The narrative is driven by a macabre mystery: a severed, smiling head found at a police station on the day it is due to close, triggering a hunt for the missing body and the truth behind it. Director M. Manikandan, known for layering social commentary into rural stories, appears to blend survival action, environmental conflict and philosophical questions about justice and violence.
The series is created and directed by M. Manikandan, with editor-filmmaker B. Ajith Kumar also credited in the writing and direction team. Vijay Sethupathi not only headlines the show but is also listed as one of its producers, reuniting with Manikandan after earlier collaborations on Kadaisi Vivasayi and Aandavan Kattalai. The ensemble cast includes Milind Soman, Sudev Nair, Kalaivani Bhaskar, Muthukumar, VJ Parvathy, Risha Jacobs Monikaa and Vadivel Murugan, with the series releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali.
With its Kaattaan OTT release date now set, the JioHotstar series arrives at a time when darker, rural crime dramas are finding a wide national audience. A star like Vijay Sethupathi fronting a violent, thematically ambitious story from a director known for restraint and nuance suggests a series that could travel well beyond its original language. If Kaattaan manages to balance its pulpy mystery with the environmental and moral questions hinted at in early material, it may emerge as one of the more memorable Indian web series of 2026.
