A flood like situation has occurred in Samarth Path area of Karvenagar following heavy rainfall which has triggered anger amongst the residents and raising new concerns over the Pune municipal corporation (PMC's) drainage work.
The residents have reported that the water entered multiple buildings including Chintamani, Moreshwar, Rahul complex and GangaNagari as rainfall started to accumulate rapidly.
However the locals blame that the promised large diameter stromwater drainage pipeline remains incomplete with near about 100 mtr of work still pending which results in poor water discharge and repeated flooding.
The team which was led by assistant commissioner Asmita Tambe from the Warje Karve Nagar ward office reach the spot and cleared blocked garbage from drains. The residents have noted that the water started to move away almost immediately after the cleaning process which also raised several questions over the effectiveness of ongoing maintenance work.
Citizens discuss that despite crores of rupees spent on storm water drain cleaning, the ground situation remains unchanged.
The creative foundation has demanded a detailed enquiry into the drain cleaning work and action against those responsible for this delay. The foundation people have also urge municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to implement urgent corrective measures within the next 3 months ahead of upcoming monsoon season.
