Maha-Metro Plans Feeder Bus Services from Ramwadi Station to Improve Last-Mile Connectivity

Pune Times Mirror 1 month ago

Metro authority invites private operators to run buses under PPP model to strengthen access to nearby residential and commercial hubs.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) is currently developing plans to establish dedicated feeder bus services from Ramwadi Metro Station, aimed at enhancing last-mile connectivity for passengers utilizing the metro network.

As part of this initiative, Maha-Metro has requested expressions of interest from private transport operators to manage the feeder services. The proposal outlines a public-private partnership (PPP) model for the operation of these routes, enabling private companies to engage in the service delivery.

Emphasis on enhancing metro accessibility

Officials have indicated that this initiative is designed to facilitate easier travel for commuters between metro stations and adjacent residential, commercial, and office areas, which is deemed essential for boosting metro ridership.

Improved connectivity beyond metro stations is anticipated to motivate more residents to opt for the metro for their daily commutes.

Current bus connectivity

At present, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) offers bus services from Ramwadi Metro Station to Pune International Airport, with buses operating approximately every 15 minutes.

Moreover, PMPML buses service routes linking Kharadi and the Kharadi Bypass, with buses available every five to ten minutes.

Independent evaluation by Maha-Metro

While PMPML continues to manage the public bus services throughout Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maha-Metro has commenced an assessment of the feasibility of introducing additional feeder services from key metro stations to enhance commuter convenience.

Authorities are confident that bolstering last-mile connectivity through such feeder networks will be crucial in improving the efficiency and reach of Pune's metro system.
