In a major setback to improve road safety and reduce accidents, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed 14 CCTV cameras and three high-speed overhead cameras along the accident-prone Navale Bridge stretch.
The installation was carried out over the past two weeks and is aimed to strengthen the traffic monitoring and proper administration in the area, which has witnessed repeated accidents due to heavy vehicle movement and steep road slope.
Officials mentioned that the new surveillance system is directly connected to the police control room which will enable round-the-clock real-time monitoring. This incorporation is expected to improve emergency response time which will allow quicker assistance in case of accidents.
