With the 57-day pilgrimage initiating in Jammu and Kashmir, the Premier beseeched pilgrims to embrace five commitments centred on environmental stewardship, public safety, and nationwide solidarity.

In an address to the devoted attendees, Modi articulated that the Amarnath Yatra is intrinsically more than merely a religious expedition, likening it to an outward expression of the ideology of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat." He elucidated that each year, adherents from every corner of the nation, spanning various dialects, customs, and traditions, convene to share their devotion to Lord Shiva.

Furthermore, the Premier offered his profound appreciation to the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir for their benevolent reception and cordiality extended to the pilgrims. He acknowledged the diligent efforts undertaken by the Army, Central Armed Police Forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, disaster response teams, healthcare professionals, sanitation personnel, and administrative officers responsible for ensuring the seamless and secure operation of the pilgrimage.

In his written correspondence, Modi implored pilgrims to embrace fivefold commitments during their expedition:

1. Uphold impeccable cleanliness and contribute to the preservation of the delicate Himalayan ecosystem and pilgrimage pathways.

2. Strictly adhere to traffic and safety directives stipulated by regulatory bodies throughout the pilgrimage.

3. Actively support indigenous products and businesses in Jammu and Kashmir, thereby bolstering regional economies.

4. Plant a seedling in honour of a family member or close associate after returning from the pilgrimage.

5. Cultivate unity, fraternity, and concord, rendering the Amarnath Yatra an exemplar of national integration.

According to the Prime Minister, these undertakings have the capacity to elevate the Amarnath Yatra into a broader societal initiative dedicated to ecological protection, sustainable growth, and the unification of the nation.

The annually observed pilgrimage commences formally on July 3rd, with the initial cohort of pilgrims departing Jammu under heavy security measures. The authorities have implemented a comprehensive, multi-layered security framework and enhanced surveillance mechanisms across both pilgrimage routes following detailed reviews by the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

The pilgrimage will remain operational until August 28th. Situated at an altitude exceeding 12,000 feet within the Himalayas, the sacred Amarnath cave shrine is home to the naturally formed ice Shivling, venerated by devotees as a manifestation of Lord Shiva.

Pilgrims have the option to travel via either the conventional Pahalgam route or the more direct yet steeper Baltal route. Each year, countless devotees from all across India embark on this arduous pilgrimage, facilitated by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
