PMC Budget Allocation Row: Top Leaders Get Crores, Some Corporators Left Out
The Pune Municipal Corporation's budget of Rs 15,669 crore has sparked a new wave of political discussion following the revelation of stark differences in fund distribution, where prominent leaders received large grants while some corporators found themselves without any financial support.
Prominent Leaders Get Major Allocations
The budget, unveiled by Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale, reveals that essential पदाधिकारी and group leaders from various parties have been granted between Rs 8-12 crore each for development initiatives in their respective wards.
Bhimale himself has set aside Rs 35-40 crore for projects in his area, showcasing the ongoing power of the committee chairman in budgetary decisions.
Evident Disparity in Party Allocations
The allocation distribution clearly favors the ruling BJP:
BJP corporators: approximately Rs 5 crore each
Corporators from merged villages: around Rs 7 crore
NCP corporators: close to Rs 4 crore
Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction): roughly Rs 3 crore each
This discrepancy has once again underscored the divide between ruling and opposition members regarding fund distribution.
No Funds for Certain Corporators
The situation intensified as reports emerged that some corporators received no funding whatsoever.
Amol Balwadkar (NCP) was given zero funds, raising concerns about potential political repercussions.
Nisha Manavatkar (BJP) also found herself without any funds, although the ruling party attributed this to technical issues, suggesting that allocations might occur later.
'C' List Allocations Surpass Rs 1,300 Crore
A considerable segment of the budget has been redirected towards corporators' 'C' list projects, with total allocations surpassing Rs 1,300 crore.
Sources suggest that approximately 15% reductions were made in the commissioner's initial provisions to facilitate these allocations.
