The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in collaboration with the Pune City Police Commissionerate, has launched a city-wide anti-drug awareness campaign that is aimed at tackling rising substance abuse among youth.

This initiative was formally inaugurated in Ward No. 24, with Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar who highlighted that the elected representatives have a huge responsibility beyond the infrastructure development.

"Citizens do not elect us only for roads and drainage work. It is also our duty to check social issues like drug abuse. We have to act as a bridge between the police and citizens to build a strong movement against drugs," Bidkar said.

Authorities have noted a growing number of cases related to drug consumption and trafficking in Pune city. While police continue to implement efforts, the officials said that the community participation is crucial in effectively addressing the issue.

The campaign aims to create awareness and encourage citizens to report illegal activities related to drugs.

Bidkar mentioned that the drug addiction is destroying families and impacting youth, adding that the responsibility to combat it lies not just with law enforcement but with society as a whole.
