PMRDA Ring Road Project Gains Momentum; Land Acquisition Begins for First Phase

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Ring Road project has been aimed to reduce traffic congestion across the Pune metropolitan region, which has received a major boost with the administration initiating land acquisition for the first phase of the corridor.

Officials said the compensation rates for land acquisition in three villages Solu, Vadgaon Shinde and Nirgudi , have now been finalised by the district administration. This has cleared the way for direct purchase of land from affected farmers.

The ambitious 83.12-kilometre-long Ring Road project is considered as one of Pune region's biggest transport infrastructure developments and is expected to prominently improve connectivity and traffic movement around the city.

Authorities have given priority to the 6.5-kilometre Alandi to Wagholi stretch in the first phase due to increasing traffic congestion in the Wagholi area.

As part of the initial acquisition process, around 34.69 hectares of land in Solu, 5.67 hectares in Vadgaon Shinde and 2.44 hectares in Nirgudi will be acquired.

Officials said affected landowners will have the option to choose either direct monetary compensation or Transferable Development Rights (TDR).

The PMRDA Ring Road will be a 66-metre-wide corridor spanning 83.12 kilometres and will be developed in five major phases.

According to project details, the proposed road will include:

The total estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 14,200 crore.

Officials said the Ring Road will help connect important places like Hinjawadi IT Park, Chakan MIDC and the Lohgaon Airport area more easily.

The project is expected to reduce travel time, shift heavy traffic away from city roads and improve connectivity across Pune district.

The administration believes the Ring Road will also help future development and boost business growth in nearby areas.
