The Pune Crime Branch has arrested three accused who were involved in a murder conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms, in a coordinated operation carried out by multiple units.
Police said that the accused which is linked to the Shekapure gang, had been allegedly planned to eliminate a member of the rival Umap gang.
A case was registered at the Kondhwa Police Station under the sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, and Maharashtra Police Act.
Acting swiftly, the Anti-Extortion Cell (Unit 2) arrested three accused with a country-made pistol on 13th March 2026, during the initial phase of the investigation.
The main accused, Amit Mallikarjun Shekapure, had been escaping since the initial arrests.
On 2nd April , based on specific information received by police constable AzadPatil, a trap was carried out under the guidance of Police Inspector Ram Rajmane, leading to his arrest near Vrindavan Ice Cream.
On the same day, Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested Nikhil Dnyanoba Lagade (23) from Gultekdi, acting on intelligence inputs under the supervision of Inspector Sandipan Pawar.
Later, on April 3, Crime Branch Unit 2 nabbed another absconding accused, Anwar alias Jamba Shakir Sheikh (23), from an industrial slum area in Gultekdi. He was also one of the accused in a separate case registered at Swargate Police Station.
Police officials said that with these arrests, all the key accused who involved in the murder conspiracy have now been taken into custody.
The operation has been concluded a major success, with all the three accused arrested within a span of two days through coordinated efforts by different Crime Branch units.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
