Samsung Galaxy S25 One UI 9 testing has reportedly begun ahead of schedule, raising expectations of a quicker Android 17 rollout for Samsung's next flagship phones.
Samsung has started internal testing of Android 17-based One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S25 series, according to well-known tipster Tarun Vats, who spotted the first encrypted test build on Samsung's update servers. The build number is obfuscated, so detailed features are not visible yet, but its appearance alone signals that development has moved to an advanced stage.
Vats notes that the One UI 9 test for the S25 lineup surfaced roughly two weeks earlier than last year's first One UI 8 build for the Galaxy S24 series, which was detected around 19 June. This earlier timeline suggests Samsung's software team is trying to accelerate major OS updates for its premium devices.
Based on the current pace, a public One UI 9 beta for Galaxy S25 owners could land as early as June, though July appears more realistic as internal builds usually run for several weeks before a wider release. Galaxy S24 users, however, are unlikely to see similar One UI 9 test activity for at least another month, meaning they may have to wait longer for Android 17.
Samsung has already opened its One UI 9 beta programme for the Galaxy S26 series, confirming that the new interface is built on Android 17 and focuses on refined design, better accessibility and stronger security protections. Officially, Samsung has said its upcoming foldables will be the first devices to ship with stable One UI 9 out of the box later this year.
The early Galaxy S25 internal builds arrive as Samsung leans more heavily on long-term software support, promising up to seven years of updates on recent flagships. With One UI 9 already in public beta on the Galaxy S26 series and now testing on the S25, the company appears keen to close the gap between hardware launches and major Android upgrades.
Samsung has not commented publicly on the leaks, and all pre-release timelines can still change, but Vats has a relatively reliable track record on Samsung firmware activity. For Galaxy S25 buyers, the earlier-than-usual One UI 9 testing is a hopeful sign that Android 17 will arrive faster, with fewer delays between first betas and the final stable release.
