Samsung is reportedly testing next-generation silicon-carbon batteries for the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, with internal prototypes said to range from 12,000mAh to 20,000mAh in capacity, according to leak blog Schrödinger Intel citing Samsung SDI documents. While commercial phones are not expected to ship with such huge figures, analysts suggest the move could finally allow Samsung to move beyond the long-standing 5,000mAh limit on its Ultra flagships without making devices thicker. Silicon-carbon cells store more energy than traditional graphite-based lithium-ion batteries, but durability has been a concern, with current test packs reportedly falling short of Samsung's internal lifespan targets.

Reports from Japan-based outlet No-Genkin say Samsung is working with East Japan Railway Company (JR East) to bring FeliCa-based NFC support to globally sold Galaxy models, starting around 2027 with the Samsung Galaxy S27 series. This would enable Mobile Suica transit and retail payments on international units, addressing a long-standing disadvantage versus Apple devices, which have shipped with worldwide FeliCa support for years.

Early leaks suggest the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature a 6.9-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED display with up to a 144Hz refresh rate, positioning it firmly at the high end of the market. The handset is tipped to run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform, with some reports pointing to a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro variant for the Ultra, while the standard Galaxy S27 models may use Samsung's 2nm Exynos 2600 chip. Storage is expected to move to faster UFS 5.0, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR6 RAM, and the phone is likely to run Android 17 with Samsung's next-generation One UI skin and extended software support.

On the imaging side, leaks mention a 200MP primary camera, alongside high-resolution telephoto and ultrawide sensors, as Samsung continues to focus on zoom and low-light performance. In India, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumoured to launch in early 2027, with indicative pricing in the region of Rs 1.4-1.5 lakh, though these figures could change as the device moves closer to release.

If the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra does arrive with a silicon-carbon battery and global FeliCa support, it would tackle two of the most persistent complaints about recent Galaxy flagships: modest battery advances and region-locked NFC features.
