The FIR was lodged after a complaint was made by a 45-year-old teacher who is employed at Sinhgad Spring Dale School in Ambegaon. Besides Maruti Navale, those named in the case include Sunanda Maruti Navale, Rachana Navale (Ashtekar), Rohit Maruti Navale, members of the society's board of trustees, and accounts department officials Sanjay More and Sharad Jarade, along with other trustees.

According to the complaint, the alleged offences took place between April 2020 and the present. The teachers claim they continued to work despite receiving either no salary or only partial payments on a few occasions. Whenever they demanded their pending wages, they were allegedly assured that the payments would be cleared. However, when the issue was repeatedly raised, they were allegedly threatened with termination and, in some cases, criminal intimidation.

The complainant alone has alleged unpaid dues of ₹19.36 lakh and the remaining 26 teachers claim salary dues amounting to ₹4.87 crore, taking the total alleged financial loss to ₹5.06 crore.

Sinhgad Technical Education Society operates several educational institutions across Pune and Maharashtra which includes engineering, pharmacy, law, arts, science and commerce colleges that employees thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff.

The society has previously faced criticism over salary delays. Employees from various institutions have staged a protests in recent years over unpaid wages. The complaint also refers to an earlier incident in which a security guard had allegedly died by suicide after reportedly not receiving his salary for an extended period which led to another criminal case against the members of the management.

Senior Police Inspector Manasing Patil of Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station has confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the teachers' complaint. He said the accused would be summoned for questioning and that further investigation is in process.
