OpenAI is reportedly planning to bring its Sora artificial intelligence video model into ChatGPT, allowing users to generate videos straight from the chat interface. For now, Sora is available only via a standalone app and website and remains in limited rollout, even as demand for AI video tools continues to surge worldwide. A report in The Information, cited by several outlets, says the San Francisco-based firm is preparing an integration that would add video generation to ChatGPT alongside text and images.

OpenAI is expected to keep the separate Sora app and website running even if Sora becomes an in-built ChatGPT feature, though it has not given any public timeline or official confirmation. The move mirrors last year's strategy, when the company embedded image generation capabilities into ChatGPT instead of pushing users to a separate tool.

Bringing Sora ChatGPT integration to the main app could dramatically expand access, as ChatGPT's user base is far larger and more active than Sora's. That might boost engagement and make AI video creation feel as simple as sending a message, but it could also further dent adoption of the standalone Sora app and website.

There are technical and financial risks.
