Sanjay Singh, a senior leader in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a member of parliament, has rebutted speculation about Raghav Chadha leaving the party and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by saying the rumour was completely without basis or substance.
Reports of Chadha's diminished appearances in public, such as not attending party offices or press briefings, and not providing a social media reaction to news events from the political world, give the impression that he might be considering moving from AAP to the BJP.
In response to this speculation, Sanjay Singh stated that Raghav Chadha is still an integral part of the AAP, has a continuing relationship with the AAP leadership, and has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the AAP, assigned responsibilities in Punjab and remains active in party affairs; therefore, speculation about his potential departure is completely unfounded.
According to Sanjay Singh, fluctuations in visibility occur throughout the course of a political career, and therefore should not be interpreted as an indication of a potential realignment of political parties. Also, a drop in public appearances should not be viewed as an indicator of imminent departure from AAP or joining an existing political party.
Singh has been very explicit in saying that he would be opposed if Chadha were to join the BJP and re-emphasises that to him, this does not indicate that Chadha will leave AAP anytime soon. Political Analysts point out that speculation usually arises when there is an internal party change, a new leader, or someone is less visible in public than their peers, or they change the way they are working within their political sphere. In terms of the leader of AAP, they continue to publicly state that, to the contrary, Chadha is a leader in AAP.
Sanjay Singh's comments seem to be intended to terminate speculation and demonstrate AAP's unity at a point in time it is possible for the narratives and opinions of political actors to grow quickly through social networking and political commentary.
