Sunjay Kapur Will Dispute: Delhi HC Freezes Massive Rs 30,000 Crore Estate Amid Shocking Claims

A contentious legal battle over the late businessman Sunjay Kapur's substantial Rs 30,000-crore fortune continues as the Delhi High Court ordered the complete freezing of his assets on Thursday.

The Sunjay Kapur will dispute centers on serious allegations raised by his children from his previous marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor, who claim the will presented by his widow Priya Kapur lacks authenticity.

Justice Jyoti Singh made clear in her ruling that Priya Kapur must dispel all doubts surrounding the legitimacy of the disputed will. "The legitimate suspicious circumstances raised by the plaintiffs will have to be completely removed by defendant number one before the document is accepted as the last will," the judge stated.

The Sunjay Kapur will dispute escalated after his children-Samaira and Kiaan-alongside their grandmother Rani Kapur, challenged the will's validity in court. They argue that if the assets aren't protected and Priya ultimately fails to prove the will's authenticity, they would lose their rightful inheritance.

The interim order has frozen equity shareholdings in three Indian companies formerly held by the deceased industrialist. Additionally, the court restrained Priya Kapur from accessing her late husband's provident fund and Indian bank accounts, except for withdrawals specifically related to obligations from Sunjay's divorce from Karisma Kapoor.

Foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency assets linked to the estate have also been barred from operation. However, the order doesn't extend to Sunjay's immovable foreign assets, as Priya's legal team argued these fall outside the Delhi High Court's jurisdiction.

Sunjay Kapur collapsed and died on June 12, 2025, during a polo match at Windsor in England. The 53-year-old businessman, who was the Chairman of Sona Comstar and a friend of Prince William, suffered cardiac arrest. Initial reports suggested he may have ingested a live bee, though eyewitnesses believe the likely cause was a massive heart attack.

In earlier court filings, Samaira and Kiaan alleged the will was "forged and fabricated," claiming the signatures don't belong to their father. They contend Priya colluded with attesting witnesses to falsify documents. The contested will reportedly bequeaths nearly the entire fortune to Priya, excluding not only Sunjay's children from his marriage to Karisma but also his mother and siblings.

The Sunjay Kapur will dispute represents one of India's highest-value inheritance battles. Justice Singh emphasized that preserving the estate during the trial, which could take considerable time, remains paramount. The court stressed that all concerns raised by the plaintiffs must be fully addressed before any acceptance of the disputed will.

This ruling provides temporary legal protection for Karisma Kapoor's children as they fight to secure their father's legacy . The case continues to attract widespread attention given the astronomical value of the estate and the prominent personalities involved.
