Tesla Model Y L Premium Delight: Powerful New Family EV for India

Tesla Model Y L Premium has arrived in India with a clear pitch: a long-range, six-seat electric SUV aimed at families who want space without giving up performance.

The Tesla Model Y L Premium has been launched at Rs 61.99 lakh ex-showroom, sitting between the Standard Range and Long Range versions of the Model Y already on sale in India. It will be sold as a completely built unit, which keeps duties high but lets Tesla move quickly in a still-small, high-end EV market. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from June 2026 across major Indian cities, with bookings already open online.

Under the skin, the Model Y L Premium uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering up to 378kW of power and 590Nm of torque. Tesla claims a 0-100km/h time of 5 seconds and a top speed of 201km/h, figures that put it among the quicker family EVs on sale in India. On the WLTP test cycle, the SUV is rated for up to 681km on a single charge, while a 250kW Tesla Supercharger can add around 288km of range in about 15 minutes, according to the company.

This long-wheelbase "L" variant is 4,976mm long, with the wheelbase stretched by 150mm to make room for a third row, while overall height is slightly increased compared with the standard Model Y. Inside, it adopts a 2+2+2 layout with captain seats in the second row, offering thigh support and a more lounge-like feel, and total cargo capacity rises to as much as 2,539 litres with the rear seats folded. The cabin is anchored by a 15.8-inch central touchscreen and an 8-inch rear display, backed by an 18+1 speaker audio system, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof, alongside connected services and over-the-air software updates.

On safety, the Tesla Model Y L Premium brings multiple airbags, electronic stability control and the company's advanced driver assistance systems, although Full Self-Driving remains unavailable for active use in India. The launch expands Tesla's still-limited local line-up at a time when sport-utility vehicles and premium EVs are gaining traction, even though electric cars remain only a small slice of overall Indian passenger-vehicle sales. For buyers willing to pay a premium for space, range and technology, the Model Y L Premium turns Tesla's India story from a single-model experiment into a more serious bet on the country's electric future.
