Vi international roaming plans deliver powerful new summer boost

Vi international roaming plans deliver powerful new summer boost

Pune Times Mirror 0 months ago

Vi international roaming plans are getting a major refresh just as Indian travellers prepare for the busy summer season.

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has rolled out 17 new international roaming packs for postpaid users in India, with prices beginning at Rs 649 for a one-day plan.

The entry pack includes 1GB of data, 150 voice minutes, and 100 SMS, aimed at short work trips or quick weekend breaks. At the top end, Vi now offers plans with validity of up to 30 days, designed for longer holidays, work assignments or student travel.

The portfolio introduces fresh seven-day, 14-day and 21-day options, alongside existing one-day and 30-day packs, taking the total to 17 international roaming plans. For example, the seven-day range starts at Rs 2,649 with 2GB of data, 300 voice minutes and 100 SMS, while a seven-day "unlimited" pack is priced at Rs 3,649 for eligible destinations. Ten-day plans are priced at Rs 2,999, Rs 3,499 and Rs 3,999, offering between 10GB and 14GB of data, 300 voice minutes and 100 SMS, with the highest tier adding unlimited usage in select countries.

A key focus of the updated Vi international roaming plans is on what users get depending on where they travel. In more than 40 countries, select premium packs offer unlimited data, voice calls and SMS, while in over 120 countries the same packs provide fixed data and voice allowances with a fair usage policy. Vi says it is currently the only Indian operator to provide truly unlimited voice and data benefits in 41 key travel destinations on these top-tier packs.

The 14-day plans range from Rs 3,599 to Rs 4,999, with options for 12GB or 21GB of data or unlimited usage in eligible locations, backed by 500 voice minutes and 100 SMS. For three-week trips, Vi has introduced 21-day packs priced at Rs 3,799, Rs 3,849 and Rs 5,699, bundling 14GB or 21GB of data, or unlimited benefits in supported destinations, along with 600 voice minutes and 100 SMS. At the longest end of the range, a Rs 3,999 30-day pack offers 30GB of data, 1,500 minutes and 100 SMS, while a Rs 5,999 variant includes 70GB of high-speed data (subject to a fair usage cap), 1,500 minutes and unlimited SMS in applicable markets.

The Vi international roaming plans are being pitched not just on breadth of coverage but also on predictability of spend. Vi says its postpaid roaming packs include bill protection features meant to guard users against unexpected charges, including safeguards when a customer travels without an active pack or to a country where benefits are limited. Packs can be bought and managed digitally via the Vi app, where users select destination and trip duration before activating their chosen plan.

The timing reflects rising demand for overseas travel from India and intense competition among operators on roaming tariffs. By expanding validity options, pushing unlimited data and calls in 41 popular destinations and emphasising controls against bill shock, Vi is trying to position its international roaming portfolio as a more confident choice for frequent flyers and holidaymakers alike. How strongly these Vi international roaming plans resonate will now depend on how they compare, in real-world use and pricing, with rival offerings from Airtel and Jio in the months ahead.
