WatchOS 27 Modular Ultra enhancements are coming to standard Apple Watch models, marking a significant shift in Apple's design philosophy.
The tech giant is testing a simplified version of the exclusive Apple Watch Ultra face for wider release.
Apple plans to introduce a streamlined variant of the watchOS 27 Modular Ultra face specifically adapted for standard watch displays. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this redesigned interface preserves the signature large clock occupying the display's upper two-thirds whilst removing cluttered elements.
The modifications eliminate the central large complication, the row of smaller complications above the time, and bezel-displayed data. Three smaller complications remain beneath the clock, creating what sources describe as "a cleaner, less cluttered interface" compared to the Ultra variant.
The watchOS 27 Modular Ultra face, internally codenamed "Orchid," will likely debut at WWDC 2026 from June 8-12. The annual developers' conference traditionally showcases software updates across Apple's ecosystem.
Pride-themed additions will arrive earlier through watchOS 26.5, featuring the new Pride Luminance face launching this month.
This strategic move brings Ultra-inspired design language to Apple's mainstream wearables without overwhelming smaller displays. The adaptation demonstrates Apple's commitment to democratising premium features across its product range.
Full release accompanies new Apple Watch hardware later this year, following September's typical launch window. Developers gain early access through beta programmes after WWDC announcements.
The transformation reflects Apple's evolving approach toward unified design experiences whilst respecting hardware limitations across different watch models.
