WhatsApp Meta AI tab brings powerful new central hub for users

WhatsApp Meta AI tab is the latest experiment from the messaging giant, and it could quietly change how people use artificial intelligence inside the app.

WhatsApp is currently testing a dedicated Meta AI tab in its Android beta, designed to gather all AI tools and conversations in one place. The feature has been spotted in recent beta builds obtained via the Google Play Store, including version 2.26.10.5, for a limited pool of testers.

The new WhatsApp Meta AI tab appears in the bottom navigation bar and replaces the existing Communities shortcut, although community chats remain accessible from the main Chats screen. Users who have access can open AI chats directly from this tab instead of hunting for the assistant across different menus.

The Meta AI tab serves as a central hub where users can ask questions, start new chatbot conversations, generate and animate images, and browse suggested prompts. WhatsApp is also integrating real-time voice features, letting people tap a voice button in the search bar or a shortcut in the menu to begin live voice interactions with Meta AI.

Each new prompt can spin up a separate thread, with WhatsApp automatically generating titles so users can quickly revisit past Meta AI chats from within the same tab. The broader aim is to streamline access to AI-powered tools, from productivity assistants to creative utilities, without complicating the core messaging experience.

For now, the WhatsApp Meta AI tab is restricted to selected Android beta testers and remains under active development. Meta has not announced a firm release date, but the company is expected to expand availability over the coming weeks if testing progresses smoothly.

As WhatsApp leans further into generative AI, this Meta AI tab could become a key entry point for future tools, while keeping traditional chats and communities just one tap away.
