Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has raised serious questions over the deployment of 23 Punjab Police personnel for the security of Rajya Sabha MP and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
Justice Jagmohan Bansal observed that official records prima facie showed approval for only eight security personnel, while 15 additional police officials appeared to have been deployed without authorisation.
Court orders district-wise review starting from Moga
The High Court directed authorities to begin a district-wise exercise starting from Moga to determine how many individuals are currently receiving security cover and how many police personnel are attached to them officially or unofficially.
The court clarified that the issue extended beyond any individual case and involved larger concerns regarding deployment of state police resources.
ADGP Security, SSP Moga asked to file affidavits
Justice Bansal directed the ADGP (Security) and the SSP, Moga, to submit detailed affidavits before the court regarding the matter.
At the same time, the bench also instructed the Punjab government to ensure that no physical harm comes to the petitioners or their family members.
