Chandigarh: After Amul, Punjab-based dairy brand Verka has also increased milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre across the state.

According to an official notification issued by Milkfed Punjab, the revised prices will come into effect from the morning of May 14.

The price hike will apply to all major milk variants, including full cream, standard, toned and cow milk. Consumers across Punjab will now have to pay more for milk purchases.

Earlier, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation had announced a ₹2 per litre increase in the prices of major Amul milk variants and packaged milk products.

Rising production costs cited behind increase

The latest hike comes days after the Punjab government increased milk procurement prices on May 1. Milkfed had raised procurement prices for dairy farmers by ₹20 per kilogram of fat to provide relief to milk producers.

Officials said rising fodder prices and increasing production costs were among the key reasons behind the decision.

Apart from Verka, both Amul and Mother Dairy have also announced a ₹2 per litre increase across their milk variants.

The companies stated that rising operational and production expenses forced them to revise retail prices.
