For Jyoti, the journey to entrepreneurship wasn’t defined by a single dramatic turning point. Instead, it was shaped by years of curiosity, a willingness to adapt, and a quiet but persistent desire to create something of her own.
With a foundation in marketing and communications, Jyoti built her career across a wide spectrum of industries - from financial advisory and television media to consumer durables, security, and biotech. Each transition brought with it a new lens, new challenges, and new learnings.
“I’ve always been drawn to the creative side,” she says. “But more than that, I’ve always felt the need to challenge myself - to step into unfamiliar territory and figure things out.” .
Growing up in an Army household, discipline and hard work were a given.
But alongside those came values that would go on to define her approach to both work and life - consistency, loyalty, kindness, and quiet confidence.
“My parents played a huge role in shaping how I think and act,” she shares. “Those early values stay with you. They influence how you work, how you treat people, and how you show up - especially when things are uncertain.”
That balance of strength and sensitivity became her professional signature. Known among colleagues as dependable, honest, and solution-oriented, Jyoti was often the one people turned to for ideation and execution. She didn’t just contribute, she took ownership.
“I’ve always been someone who shows up, who participates, who is willing to learn,” she says. “I didn’t want to be boxed into silos. I wanted to understand the bigger picture.”
But over time, that instinct to keep evolving began to nudge her in a new direction.
“There wasn’t one big moment,” she reflects. “It was more of a quiet, consistent feeling that I was ready to build something of my own.”
That feeling led to the creation of Vivistry.
Creating Vivistry: From an Idea to an Identity
The name itself reflects the brand’s essence - Vivistry is a blend of “viv,” inspired by words like vivid, vivacious, and viva, and “istry,” drawn from artistry. Together, it represents something expressive, alive, and thoughtfully created.
“It had to be a new word,” Jyoti explains. “Because what I wanted to build didn’t feel like it belonged to something that already existed.”
The first product she designed was a laptop office tote - practical, structured, and rooted in real-life needs. But unlike her corporate experience, where teams and agency partners supported execution, this time it was just her - and her husband.
Building from Scratch, Together
“Vivistry may be my vision,” Jyoti says, “but the journey has never been mine alone.”
At the centre of that support system is her husband - her constant through every phase of building the brand.
“He is my rock,” she says simply.
Whether it’s navigating day-to-day operations, troubleshooting unexpected challenges, or simply being there to listen, he has been her go-to person. “Some days, I just need to vent or reason things out. Other days, I’m full of ideas. He’s there for all of it - steady, patient, and always invested.”
In a journey that can often feel isolating, especially in its early stages, that kind of partnership has been invaluable.
But the circle of support extends further.
“My parents have been my foundation - their values guide me even now,” she shares. “My in-laws have given me nothing but love and encouragement - their only ask has been that I stay happy.”
She adds, with quiet warmth, “My daughter - she’s always curious about what I’m doing and keen to learn. She helps me pack orders, sometimes even shoots my reels for me and I truly cherish this time with her, something I couldn’t always do during my long corporate hours. Just having her by my side means more than I can put into words. And my siblings, who’ve seen every version of me and whose quiet, unwavering support and constant belief in me has always kept me grounded and moving forward.”
Because behind every independent journey, there are often quiet pillars holding it up.
Learning, Unlearning, and Building with Intent
Starting Vivistry meant stepping into completely new territory.
From vendors who initially dismissed her queries to the technical complexities of designing and producing a bag, the process came with its share of challenges.
“There were moments when vendors wouldn’t take me seriously, since I had just started out and did not need large quantities or had deep budgets," she recalls. “But I persisted. I knew I didn’t want to set up manufacturing right away. I wanted to find the right partners.”
And so she did what she has always done - she immersed herself in the process.
There were countless hours of conversations, both over calls and in person, traveling to factories, understanding the manufacturing process and meeting the kaarigars. She learned about materials, construction techniques, finishes, and the finer details that go into creating a well-made product. She insisted on experiencing everything firsthand; touching, feeling, and understanding before making decisions.
“I wasn’t just looking to get something made,” she says. “I wanted to understand how it’s made, so I could design better, drawing from real feedback and my own experiences as a customer.”
Even when things didn’t go as planned - and there were many such moments, her mindset remained steady.
“Yes, there were delays. Yes, there were issues. But I chose not to dwell,” she says. “I’d acknowledge it, fix what I could, sometimes even laugh about it, and move on.”
Walking away from a senior, high-paying corporate role might have been daunting for many, but for Jyoti, it felt surprisingly natural.
“I didn’t lose sleep over the absence of a monthly salary,” she says. “This felt right. It felt fulfilling.” With a quiet smile, she adds, “I was my own malkin.”
The Vivistry Woman: Confident, Conscious, and Unapologetically Herself
At the heart of Vivistry is a clear understanding of the woman it designs for.
The “Vivistry woman” is someone who has come into her own. She is thoughtful, self-aware, and not easily influenced. She takes her time, weighs her choices, and values what truly matters.
“She doesn’t dress to impress,” Jyoti says. “She dresses to express.”
She is ambitious yet kind, emotional yet strong, practical yet expressive. She understands the difference between something that is merely expensive and something that is truly worth investing in.
“She is versatile and dynamic - and her accessories need to keep up with her, not the other way around.”
Design That Works: Where Function Meets Expression
Vivistry’s design philosophy is rooted in real life.
For Jyoti, space and functionality are non-negotiable.
“A bag has to work,” she says. “It should make your day easier, not more complicated.”
From office totes designed to carry the demands of a full workday to compact slings, wallets, and travel pouches, each product is created with usability at its core.
Customers have responded particularly well to categories like office bags, mobile slings, wallets, and travel pouches - appreciating their build quality, thoughtful design, and generous space.
Materiality plays a key role as well. Vivistry experiments with canvas, vegan leather, embroidered fabrics, raffia, and crochet - bringing together modern design with subtle Indian influences. All products are handmade in India.
“We also wanted to move away from the monotony of browns, blacks, and beiges,” Jyoti adds. “There’s room for colour, for vibrancy.”
Importantly, the brand balances functionality and craftsmanship with accessible pricing - offering strong value for everyday use.
Milestones and the Road Ahead
Every milestone for Vivistry has been deeply personal.
From building their own website entirely in-house, to getting listed on Amazon, and now being noticed and onboarded by Myntra - each step has been a reflection of persistence and belief.
“These may seem like small steps from the outside,” Jyoti says, “but when you’re building from scratch, they mean everything.”
As a bootstrapped venture, the current focus remains on learning and refining - understanding customer needs, gathering feedback, and evolving designs accordingly.
Looking ahead, Vivistry plans to expand into categories such as card holders, mini wallets, and more convertible designs - continuing its focus on maximizing utility across all product sizes.
“We’re in this for the long haul,” she says. “And everything we build from here will be shaped by real feedback and real experiences.”
A Story of Choice and Conviction
Vivistry is not built on dramatic disruption or overnight success. It is built on something quieter - but far more enduring.
Consistency. Curiosity. Ownership. And the choice to keep going.
“I don’t like to give up,” Jyoti says simply.
Supported by a family that continues to stand firmly beside her, and anchored by a partner who is part of every high and low, she is building Vivistry with clarity and conviction.
For her, success isn’t just about growth - it’s about alignment.
And in choosing to create something of her own, she has found exactly that.
