A Korean family’s overnight sleeper bus journey from Chennai to Trivandrum is winning hearts online after their video documenting the 15-hour ride crossed over 2 million views and millions of likes on social media. The video, featuring a Korean mother and her two young sons travelling aboard a premium zingbus Maxx service, has sparked conversations around how India’s intercity bus travel experience is evolving rapidly.
The family, visibly surprised and delighted throughout the journey, described it as their “longest bus ride ever” and one of their best travel experiences in India. More than 300 users have commented on the viral video, with many sharing similar experiences of premium bus travel across the country.
The mother, who filmed most of the journey, repeatedly compared the experience to bus travel in South Korea, a country globally known for its advanced public transport systems. Within minutes of boarding, she expressed disbelief at the level of comfort offered onboard. “This is the next level,” she said in the video, adding that the quality exceeded what they had experienced back home in Korea. The bus featured private sleeper berths with curtains, blue ambient lighting, charging ports, reading lamps, leather pillows, and clean bedding. The surprises continued through the night as onboard staff distributed welcome kits containing snacks and dental kits.
One of the highlights for the family was dinner service delivered directly to their berths. The meal included a full Indian thali with rice, curries, and accompaniments. The mother also pointed out the clean onboard restroom equipped with a sink, a feature still uncommon on many buses globally. As dawn broke, the visuals transitioned into Kerala’s scenic palm-lined roads before the family finally arrived in Trivandrum, where they were welcomed by a local friend dressed in a traditional mundu. The family later described the beginning of their Kerala trip as the start of their “Keralam story.”
What has resonated strongly with viewers is the family’s genuine reaction. Their surprise at finding an Indian sleeper bus experience comparable and in some aspects better than services in South Korea has caught the internet’s attention.
The viral moment also reflects a larger shift taking place in India’s intercity transport sector. Over the last few years, premium bus operators have started introducing hospitality-focused services including sleeper pods, onboard meals, washrooms, curated amenities, and trained crew members to cater to a growing base of comfort-seeking travellers. The Chennai–Trivandrum route, one of South India’s busiest overnight corridors, is increasingly emerging as a showcase for these upgraded travel experiences.
The Korean family’s video joins a growing list of travel content from international tourists documenting unexpectedly positive experiences while travelling across India. As more foreign travellers explore destinations beyond flights and railways, India’s premium intercity bus network is gradually gaining recognition as one of the country’s most underrated travel experiences.
