WATCH: Big Fight Breaks Out Within BSP Ranks At Party Meeting In Maharashtra, Chairs Used As Weapons In Ruckus

  • A massive fracas broke out at a BSP meeting in Maharashtra
  • Party members attacked each other using chairs
  • The meeting was being held in Amravati

A significant ruckus was witnessed at a meeting of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Maharashtra's Amravati.

In a shocking video that has been accessed of the fracas which took place on Monday evening persons who are believed to be local leaders of the party are being unceremoniously hounded, chased and thrashed by another group from within the party. The attackers are mercilessly chasing the purported local leaders from the premises, using plastic chairs as weapons while an equal number of people are taking videos of the incident before them.

As per inputs, the infighting took place at a time that senior leaders of the predominantly Uttar Pradesh-based national party were at the meeting. The precise cause for the fighting is as yet unknown.

The BSP, which has tried hard to set up a base for itself in Maharashtra for almost two decades now despite never having won a seat - either in the Lok Sabha or in the state Legislative Assembly level - saw its vote-share in the state slipping below the 1% mark in the recent 2019 Lok Sabha polls, far less than it had achieved five years ago. It has been attempting to conduct an internal inquest into the no-show in Maharashtra by holding meetings within the state.

The Mayawati-led party did, nonetheless, manage to better its tally overall, as it won 10 seats in the Lok Sabha as compared to winning nothing in 2014. It's pre-poll ally Samajwadi Party, however, won just 5 seats as the BJP stormed to a majestic 62 seat wins in India's most electorally significant state. In Maharashtra too, it was a similar story, as the BJP-Shiv Sena combine won 41 seats overall out of 48.
