Sugarcane dues issue raised in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi, Samajwadi Party member in the Rajya Sabha Surendra Singh Nagar on Monday raised the issue of non-payment of sugarcane farmers' dues in Uttar Pradesh. The SP lawmaker said the farmers' dues had become an important poll plank in Lok Sabha election now it is completely forgotten. The Government promised of clearing the dues within 14 days but nothing has been done so far in this regard, he said. ''The Sugar mills owe over Rs 10 thousand crore and alone in western UP, over five thousand crore of farmers dues are pending despite fact that the Government extends soft loans to mill owners to get the farmers dues cleared'', Mr Nagar said. He sought the intervention of the Centre in the issue. BJP lawmaker Ajay Pratap Singh urged the Government to enlist 'Bagheli' language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution whereas another member of the saffron party Vijay Pal Singh demanded for air service operation from Meerut. The DMK and AIDMK members urged the government to re-consider the two unanimously passed bills by the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the exemptions of the students from NEET examination for Medical and Dental Colleges admission in the states. The Bills were rejected by the President on advice of the Home Ministry.
