Good news for students! Schools and colleges in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district will remain closed for six days, from August 5 to August 10, due to the Kanwar Yatra.
The district administration announced the holidays as lakhs of Kanwar devotees are expected to pass through the district, leading to heavy traffic and large crowds. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and help manage traffic smoothly.
Every year during the holy month of Shravan, Kanwar devotees travel from Haridwar carrying holy Ganga water. Since Muzaffarnagar is one of the major routes, roads witness a huge rush of pilgrims during the yatra.
To maintain law and order, the administration has deployed additional police personnel, strengthened CCTV surveillance, arranged barricades for crowd control, and made separate queues for women devotees.
Apart from the school holidays, non-vegetarian shops and restaurants along the Kanwar routes will remain closed until August 12, and traffic diversions will be in place during the yatra.
