Schools have also been strictly warned that any collection of excess or "hidden" fees could lead to cancellation of their official recognition.

The move comes after several complaints about private schools charging amounts higher than the government-approved limits. Officials said the step is aimed at ensuring transparency and protecting parents from unfair fee demands.

As per the School Education Department, all schools reopening on June 4 must follow the new directive without exception. Around 13,000 private schools functioning in the state have been instructed to strictly stick to the approved fee structure.

The government has also reminded schools that collecting additional admission charges or unofficial fees is strictly prohibited under the Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Amendment Act. A dedicated committee of education officials and experts has been tasked with fixing and monitoring fee structures.

Parents have been encouraged to report violations directly to the authorities. Complaints received will be reviewed, and strict action will be taken against schools found guilty of overcharging.

Officials said the initiative is expected to curb exploitation and ensure fair fee practices across private educational institutions in the state.
