From the 2026-27 academic year, the government is likely to introduce a new transparent and faster fee reimbursement system. According to reports, the SC Welfare Department, which acts as the nodal department for welfare schemes, has prepared key proposals to streamline the process.
Fee Reimbursement on 'First Come, First Serve' Basis
Under the proposed system, students who apply early will get priority in fee reimbursement disbursal. The government plans to release funds based on a "First Come, First Serve" model.
At present, delays in fee reimbursement payments are creating difficulties for both students and college managements. Fees related to one academic year are often released only in the following year, increasing the financial burden on students and institutions.
To address this issue, the Telangana government is reportedly planning to ensure that fee reimbursement amounts are released within the same academic year.
Telangana Spends Over Rs. 2300 Crore Every Year
The Telangana government spends approximately Rs. 2300 crore to Rs. 2400 crore annually on fee reimbursement and scholarship schemes.
Officials are now discussing whether:
- the funds should be released in a single installment, or
- payments should be made in multiple phases.
A detailed payment schedule is expected to be announced soon.
Major Changes Expected in Admission Process
Following key observations made by the High Court regarding fee reimbursement, the government is planning to bring more clarity before the admission process begins this year.
As per the court's directions:
- colleges should not forcibly collect fees from students, and
- there should be transparency regarding government reimbursements.
The government is currently reviewing these aspects carefully.
Telangana Inter Admission Schedule Temporarily Cancelled
In the backdrop of upcoming education reforms, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education has temporarily withdrawn the previously announced Intermediate admission schedule.
According to officials:
- the old admission schedule has been cancelled,
- new guidelines are being prepared, and
- a revised admission schedule will be released soon.
Because of this, students planning to join Intermediate courses may need to wait for some more time before the admission process resumes.
