Chased by locals on theft allegations, Hindu youth jumps into canal and dies
Dhaka (Bangladesh) - In the Hat Chakgauri Bazaar area of Naogaon District, a Hindu youth, Mithun Sarkar (age 25), was chased by fanatic Muslims after being accused of theft.
In an attempt to escape, Mithun jumped into a nearby canal, where he drowned and died. He was a resident of Bhandarpur village. Mithun's body was recovered from the canal after four hours. The Police have not yet confirmed whether Mithun was actually involved in theft or not.
11 Hindus murdered in Bangladesh in 35 days

In the past 35 days, 11 Hindus have been killed in Bangladesh. Apart from these, attacks on Hindus have taken place at several locations. In the month of December alone, 51 such incidents were recorded. Recently, in Narsingdi, a 40-year-old Hindu trader, Sarat Chakravarti Mani, was murdered by fanatic Muslims using sharp weapons. Traders protested this killing, markets were shut down, and human chains were formed demanding justice. Despite protests by Hindus, killings continue unabated in Bangladesh. Raising one's voice against extremists is proving to be a threat to life.
List of recent killings
1. On 2.12.2025, 42-year-old Pratosh Karmakar was shot dead in Raipura in Narsingdi. On the same day, 35-year-old fish trader Utpal Sarkar was also killed. He was a resident of Saltha in Faridpur District.
2. On 7 December, freedom fighter and Bangladesh Liberation War 1971 veteran Jogeshchandra Roy and his wife Subarna Roy were brutally murdered by slitting their throats inside their home. This incident took place in Rangpur.
3. On 12 December, 18-year-old rickshaw puller Shanta Das was murdered in Cumilla. His throat was slit and his body was dumped in a field.
4. On 18 December, 27-year-old Hindu youth Dipu Das was dragged out of a factory and beaten to death by a mob. His body was later hung from a tree. This incident occurred in Bhaluka in Mymensingh.
5. On 24 December, Amrit Mandal was beaten to death in Rajbari District. On 29 December, Bajendra Biswas, a Hindu member of the Ansar paramilitary force, was shot dead in the Mymensingh region.
6. On 3 January, Hindu trader Khokanchandra Das was attacked with a knife while returning home. Petrol was then poured on him and he was burnt alive.
7. On 5 January, Rana Pratap Bairagi, Executive Editor of a local daily and owner of an ice factory, was shot dead. On 6 January, Sarat Chakravarti was also murdered by extremists. This series of incidents underscores the continuing and targeted violence faced by Hindus in Bangladesh.
