The couple was stopped near the A.P.M.C. Gate area and beaten, in which the husband was seriously injured. A video of the incident is rapidly circulating on social media.

Following the incident, strong protests were held on April 4. Hindu organizations and local citizen groups called for a bandh in Arsikere, which received a widespread response. Many shopkeepers voluntarily kept their shops closed. A large number of people gathered for the protest, raised slogans, and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. Protesters also marched up to the A.P.M.C. Gate.

What happened?

The couple had come to Arsikere to attend the annual chariot festival of the Shri Jenukallu Siddheshwaraswamy Temple. While returning on a two-wheeler after offering prayers, the main accused, Sufiyan Sameevulla, allegedly stopped them. He was reportedly riding his vehicle at high speed and collided with the couple's vehicle.

When the couple objected to his driving, an argument broke out, which quickly turned violent. The accused allegedly pulled the husband off the two-wheeler and began assaulting him on the road. Despite the wife's pleas, the assault did not stop. Sufiyan then allegedly called his associates, who arrived shortly and joined in the attack.

People present nearby recorded videos of the incident instead of intervening. These videos later went viral on social media, increasing public outrage.

Police have registered a case and stated that further action will be taken.

Accused's alleged political links

It is being reported that the accused, Sufiyan, has links with close associates of former Congress MLA K.M. Shivalinge Gowda. (If this is true, the accused will face punishment.- Editor) Due to possible political influence, concerns are being raised about delays in action. Many local residents have questioned the police response and demanded strict action against all the accused.
